I've only been lucky enough to attend one march madness game. It was Stanford vs. St. Joe's in San Diego and about 60 percent of the fans weren't really fans of either school but just there to see a good game. But the arena was packed and the fans spent most of the game on their feet because the teams were good and the game compelling. It's hard to imagine why the NCAA and schools wouldn't want football teams and fans to have the same experience. I know, it occurred to me as I wrote it that it’s not easy to mock someone whose position is so ridiculous to begin with.

If ND had a chance to fight their way into the Top 8 to be in a Playoff against the other Top 7 teams in the country, you wouldn't be interested in watching them in the regular season trying to accomplish that? And besides, an 8-team playoff only accounts for 7 games. There were 32 bowls this year. Plenty of room for other unimportant matchups to take place. In this scenario, all you want still holds true. If you lose 2 games, you could still have that 1 in a million chance to make it to the 8-game playoff that gives you an even better shot at the MNC game. And those odds can drop to 0 in November too. You get all the good, with a few more really good matchups at the end of the year, and I dont see where it's worse. Really SD?
