Irish Place Kicking Could Be Worse

Poor Brandon Walker. We’re cheering for the kid. We really are. But the kid has really struggled through the first half of the 2008 season on field goals, going 2 of 8 thus far. Still, among the number of encouraging signs one could cull from the UNC game, Walker completed a 41 yard field goal. Also, he’s perfect this season on PATs. So the Irish place kicking game could be worse. The Irish place kicking game could be the Texas Tech place kicking game.
Texas Tech coach Mike Leach said he has replaced freshman starting kicker Donnie Carona with senior walk-on Cory Fowler.

Carona, a scholarship player from Beaumont Kelly, is 3-for-7 on field goal attempts and has missed four of 37 extra point attempts. Five of his attempts have been blocked.

Or, Biscuit could be your kicker (zing!!), man these just keep getting lamer.
Speaking of blocks, I suspect that’s the reason Burkhart hasn’t gotten ahead of Walker. Walker may spray his attempts, but they all have a good enough trajectory that they’re unlikely to be blocked.
DTK, I’m money from 43 yards in. I don’t have a long range, but I was 36 for 37 in Spring Camp inside of 45 yards, with my one miss hitting the upright bc my plant foot slipped in mud. These are facts.
Strange but true, DTK, had Bob Davie not hated the idea of burning his scholarship kickers and taking on a walk-on, Biscuit would have been a pretty damn good kicker.
And one thing we’d have never had to worry about was Biscuit’s ego taking too many blows to make a big kick.
FIVE blocked field goals?!? Something is going wrong in Lubbock with their kicking unit!
