Why? Because we have the most national championships in the country. It is solid - it means that not only can your program NOT win an NC, you can't even beat 10 other teams. Just TEN. C'mon now - at least a few times, that should be possible. Especially when a few of them don't even count as real football programs...wait, oops, Purdue might actually be in that bucket. From experience, I know this can be done. I grew up a soccer player, and was a kicker at ND for all of a semester. But, it takes a lot of changes in technique, and a bunch of discipline to change to kicking a football. And it's much harder if you keep playing soccer to do so. I wouldn't doubt that CW asked some of the guys on the ND soccer squad to try it out. It's a transition that can be made. But it's not all that easy to do so. Craig and Burbank. And given how loaded that team is, I would bet that there actually is some serious competition in their practices.
