WR Richard Jackson has asked for and was granted his release from the ND Football team this evening.

Jackson apparently felt he wasn’t getting enough reps to show the coaching staff what he could do. Update: The original BGI article (linked) mentioned his dissatisfaction with reps. However, that has been edited and now mentions family issues and being closer to home.

We’d had high hopes for Jackson, as his frame and athletic ability always seemed like a great fit for the sort of offense ND wants to run, but he was unable to break into much playing time during his freshman year and an injury laid him up for all of 2007. We’re disappointed that he’s decided to move on, but hope he can find a new situation that will make him happier.
