David Bruton, the senior Safety and Captain, was named to the Thorpe Watch List for the ‘08 season.  Bruton is one of the few experienced leaders in a talent-laden defensive backfield, and is the team’s leading returning tackler (85 in ‘07). 

Given the departure of Zibby and Trevor Laws, Bruton will be looked upon to be a leader of the defense.  Much like some of last year’s Captains, Bruton appears to be more of a ‘lead by example’ type guy, but I’m hoping that he steps out of that shell a bit and becomes the vocal/spirited type of leader that this team needs.

The watch list is nice, but it tells us what we already knew:  he’s a good player.   Now here’s to finding out that he’s what this D really needs:  a good leader.
