HLS Endorses Orsini

domer.mq

HLS has looked at “all of the candidates” for the position of Athletic Director at the University of Notre Dame and after careful consideration, one of the Sons has placed Steve Orsini in his “top 2,” one has placed Orsini in his “top 1,” and a number of Sons have remained silent on the matter. That, you see, is how democracy works. And after a careful, thoughtful execution of democracy, HLS is prepared to give Steve Orsini our blessing.

Quick Orsini Data:

  • Graduated from Notre Dame in 1978
  • Played fullback on 1977 National Championship Team, meaning he understands the soul and the magic potential of ND.
  • Played very large role in any of us even knowing that Central Florida exists, not to mention has a football team
  • Hired George O’Leary, after the ND-Kevin-White-Resume-fiasco. Balls.
  • Fired a coach mid-season at SMU and then kept the replacement search going (72 Days!) until he got probably the best coach he could get at SMU in June Jones (never mind that Jones had grown sick and tired of Hawaii and its Dollar Menu recruiting budget).
  • Never worked as AD at a “major” program.
  • Could probably kick my ass.
  • Update: Excellent find and required reading for all interested in the name of the next AD at ND. Mmmmmmmm, “getting it.”

Orsini is, apparently, interested in the job (or at least talking about the job), but has not been contacted by Notre Dame. Yet. And I don’t think that’s Orsini being demure. Pretty sure of it. So the likelihood that Orsini hasn’t been contacted, coupled with our endorsement virtually guarantees that Orsini will not be the next AD at Notre Dame. We thank him for his time and wish him luck in his future endeavors.

I am sure they will talk to him. While White’s departure probably did not catch anyone off balance, this will be a deliberate process. I would be surprised if we made a hire before mid-July.

2 other names came to mind for AD, before there was Joe Montana, there was Joe Thiesman. Steve Orsini has the experience & availability, that helps!

After drinking ‘THE ORIGIAL GERMAN ICE BOCK’, i recollected seeing Steve Beuerlein, seated in the section above, (ND SECTION) in the 1989 Fiesta Bowl! To me, he would make an excellent AD!!

jack,

You don’t seriously think some great ND players who have never been ADs would make great ADs at ND, do you? Where’s the punchline?

jack,

He made a bold move that got a program that wasn’t even on the map up onto the national radar. He also got a stadium built for UCF that wasn’t even planned for when he was hire. Compared to White taking a decade just to get plans for a _renovation_ of the JACC, this guy is a mover.

I’m not Fr. Jenkins.. That was my mistake.
