You've already heard about this everywhere, but there are times when people do things so horrible, that every "outlet," be it a member of the mainstream media or just a modest blog like ours must plant the sword of righteousness right up the rear of the offender and rattle it around for the entire world to hear.
Today's case: Tommy Bowden has cut Rey Ray McElrathbey.
Ray Ray McElrathbey is done with football at Clemson, and a teammate said it's because the Tigers' coaching staff decided not to renew his scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year.
Clemson announced Saturday that McElrathbey, a reserve tailback who gained national fame for taking custody of his younger brother, is no longer with the team. Team spokesman Tim Bourret said McElrathbey, who has two years of football eligibility remaining, will graduate in August and plans to attend graduate school or transfer and play elsewhere.
James Davis, a senior tailback for the Tigers, said McElrathbey told him he didn't have a choice.
"He said something about how they weren't going to renew his scholarship," said Davis, who has been friends with McElrathbey since their high school days in Atlanta. "It really surprised me. But there's a lot of stuff you can't say. It's something I guess everybody has to learn to live with."
For those of you who don't already know, McElrathbey became a nationally known name after the story broke of his efforts to care for his young brother while playing football and attending Clemson. And you better believe Tommy Bowden was more than happy to let the Spotlight of Puppy Dogs and Ice Cream shine down upon his program during the good times. So he'd better be ready for the Red Lights of Hell to bare down upon him now.
This just reaffirms what has been reaffirmed ad nauseum: The Bowden blood line is some fluke of genetic material that didn't die in the depths of some prison in the South Eastern United States long ago and has instead been allowed to propagate across the football world. And while it's nice to know that Satan's little helpers are already fluffing Tommy's pillows in anticipation for his arrival, it's infuriating that the Bowdens just don't seem to be in any rush to die.
If given a choice between hosting the Taliban or the Bowdens for dinner, I'd choose the Taliban. At least the conversation would be sort of interesting while leading up to the beat downs. With the Bowdens, I'd just have to get to the beat downs before the crudités even hit the table.

WTF? Reading your post, I figured that maybe the kid wasn’t getting it done in the classroom, so Bowden was cutting. But then I read the article and it tunrs out the kid is actually going to GRADUATE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE! Apparently Coach Bowden just can’t abide by his football players taking the concept of the student-athlete seriously.
What an ass. As the article points out, Bowden signed too many commits and Auburn is over the 85-man limit. So this kid will get cut to make room for another kid with a healthy knee and less commitment to academics.
I hope all potential Auburn recruits read this article. All the nice things Coach Bowden told your mama? They don’t count for squat if you don’t break the two-deep.
Thumbs Up/Down:
