Omar Hunter Snaked, Swindled…NAY! Bam-boozled by Urban.
The Biscuit
We all heard about Omar’s signing day drama. I can’t say he didn’t get what he asked for - listening to Urban and his lies and all that during the process - but the kid got screwed. In the process, he learned what kind of guy Urban really is.
The story was recapped in Rivals, ESPN, all around. The morning of the signing, Omar and his teammates had a ceremony for winning State.
”We had the ceremony right at 9 o’clock,” Hunter explained. “They lined us up at the table, honored us for being the state champions and then got us to sign our papers.”
All well and good. Omar is having a good time at the ceremony. But there’s something hanging over his head.
“I got a voice mail left to me last night by a coach that was recruiting me that coach Mattison was leaving Florida to go to Baltimore,” said Hunter. “They told my coach the same thing. That’s how things got started.”
So, this is what made Omar waver a little. Some signing day jitters, you know, because the coach that recruited him and for whom he was going to play and who likely sold him on why he should bail from ND to play at UF was said to be leaving. So, Omar checked in with Urban “The Truth-Teller”.
“That [the rumor of Mattison leaving] got to me a little bit, but I found out that wasn’t going to happen.” [Tuesday night]
Phew! Good for Omar, it’s really nice that Urban cleared that up for him that morning so he could send in his LOI knowing that Mattison would still be there. Urban let him know, straight up, that that was just another coach trying to poach:
Don’t listen to him kid, he’s just trying to get you to switch at the last minute, trust me. Trrrruuuuuuussssst meeeeee! Wha? Oh no, just ignore this watch that I am swinging back and forth in a nice, calming motion. Nothing at all, nothing…but you’re getting sleepy…

So Omar is reassured, and sends in his LOI. All’s good right? Omar’s on board, Mattison is sticking around…wait, what? A few hours later we find out that Mattison JUST received an offer for more money from the Ravens, and is seriously considering it now? WOW! What amazing offer more money - and just the amount Mattison wants - a few hours after Omar finally signs his LOI. Wow. The world is a crazy place. What a COINCIDENCE!
I’m putting all my money on 4 tomorrow night in vegas baby! Sweet!

And just one day later? You guessed it! You win a cookie! There’s an article today revealing that Mattison is gone.
And Omar learns about the kind of guy he’s playing for.
Sorry for the kid. Unfortunate choices. Good luck dealing with the Liar, Omar. I bet ND may still have a spot for you if you decide you’d like to play for someone that’s straight up.
The Liar strikes again.

I am compkletely tired of hering about Urban. I don’t know how ND ever could have considered him
Really? I don’t know why, but I NEVER get tired of writing about it. I think it’s something in me - I despise it when people get away with things. Like the dude that hit my car while LOOKING DOWN AT HIS LAP and then said it was my fault. Unbelievable people! So I just feel the need to call Urban out. All. The. Time. Justice League, Roll Out!
Still bitter that your first choice has already won a NC?
Yeah, he is scum. I would bet it all starts to fall apart in about 2-3 years. Miami won’t stay down for too long and at some point the NCAA (as impotent as they are) will have to do something.
DTK,
I think you’re right. Florida has really benefited not just from Miami being impotent, but FSU as well. Miami, as it just proved, will always be able to recruit, so if the coaching works out, they’ll be back on top. And FSU wont tolerate this rut much longer. I’d look for Bowden’s swan song tour to actually be the 2008 season. He’ll probably announce it this summer, I’d have to think.
Biscuit, early on in my freshman year, Powlus almost ran me over with his car. Possibly would’ve been my fault for being in the way, but thankfully I didn’t drink much yet and still had the reflexes to get out of the way.
Even if Urban was our first choice (which he wasn’t), he sure as hell wasn’t ND’s first choice. Leave it to Urban to not bother correcting that misinterpretation of ND’s coaching search.
Bullfrog,
Were you taking Tennis? I took Tennis my frosh year and it was a daily routine for me to dive out of the way or Ron’s explorer as he raced towards Loftus.
I think I was walking to the library, actually - it was on the access road right in back of BP and Farley. I guess he needed something from the Huddle?
