Might Want To Read Into This A Bit

domer.mq

I keep seeing this article pop up all over the place, with lots of people wondering what to make of this bit in particular.

And there’s this, Willingham was fired after three seasons, none of which were as bad as Weis’ third. Yet Weis is still here, working on his 2009 recruiting board even.

“He should have been given more than three years, I’ll tell you that,” Weis said. “It’s a general comment because I don’t know all the factors. You don’t know and I don’t know all the extenuating factors.

“(But) on the surface, you’d like to see what would happen if (Willingham was) given a five-year segment. All coaches should be able to get that if people show patience. It’s difficult though to show patience when one of the objectives is to win.”

And oh let the speculating begin. People are trying desperately to figure out if Weis is trying to lay some groundwork to help buy himself some time in case the 2008 season isn’t a big success, or if Weis is trying to critcize Notre Dame in some way, or whatever…

But look closer at the quotes. Better yet, read closer. What’s missing? What’s missing that, by virtue of missing, would make it tough to really know what Weis meant by these quotes.

Here’s a hint: The F&$*ING Questions that prompted Weis’ words!

Do yourself a favor, dear readers and fellow Notre Dame fans, learn how not to look stupid on the internet.

I’m with you domer,I see nothing in Wetzel’s article to speculate about. It is unclear if a question was even asked or that the quotes were a regurgitation from past interviews. This of course will not stop them who enjoy picking the corn out of every bit of crap that shows up on the net.

Non-story. Regardless of the questions/timing. Even if Weis thinks Willingham should’ve been given more time, it’s not his job to decide that. He was given the situation afterwards, and now it’s his job to coach the team. Given his knowledge of ND and all, I’d not be surprised at all if these were his straight-up sentiments. Nor do I think it matters.
