Where There’s a Will…
There’s a way to get kicked off 2 teams at the same time. Awww, *&$%^.
Stud TE Will Yeatman was suspended indefinitely by both the ND Lacrosse team and the Football team for violating undisclosed rules. Apparently, the violation was pretty serious and it violated both teams’ rules. So, Yeatman is out. For how long? We don’t know. I am hoping that this is a ‘for the rest of the year’ type thing that means that Will can get his act together, work out a bunch, and come back in the summer so that he’s back in Blue and Gold in the Fall.
But, I don’t know. It really depends which rule, how it was broken, and if he’s apologetic and willing to work his way back into the good graces of both his Lacrosse and Football teams - coaches and players. But I don’t think we’ll get any more info, nor should we. This is between Will and his fellow players and coaches. But, both teams will be missing Mr. Yeatman.
Last year, the Sophomore was named the Great Western Lacrosse League (what a name for a freaking league, huh?) newcomer of the year, and he was projected to play a major role in ND’s offense this fall, sharing time with the other super stud TE on the roster Mike Ragone.
With the transfers of Konrad Reuland and Matt “Don’t go to ND Mike Floyd…Oh you’re going because you’re your own man? Okay…” Carufel, and the loss of Yeatman (at least for now), what we were once calling Tight End U is now One-Tight End-U. It comes down to you Mr. Ragone. Show us what you got.

Thankfully, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon with top-rated recruits Kyle Rudolph and Joe Fauria joining the Irish this Fall. But both guys are young and need to fill out their frames before becoming the stalwart blockers that ND needs to shore up the line.

So, here’s to hoping that indefinitely means early summer, and that Will spends his time getting back on track, and putting on some muscle.
Do it right, Will, and get back out there.
UPDATE: Ugh, looks like Yeatman was arrested for DWI. This is brutal. Driving while under the Influence is obviously a big deal, and an even bigger deal when you’re under-age. Yeatman will need to spend a lot of time fixing this, and I really hope the kid learns his lesson. Not only did he let his teammates down, he put himself and a lot of other people in danger.
I’m glad he/no one was hurt, and I’m glad that the coaches and the University are sticking to their guns and dishing out some real punishment, unlike the Florida’s and USC’s of the world where a 1-week suspension where practicing is allowed is the typical consequence.

Gah. The real problem and the real loss here is that, if we can’t get him back on the field, we lose someone with a very real and natural nasty streak. He’s apparently always looking for a fight.
C’mon Will. Do whatever it takes to get back on the squads!
Maybe we’ll see Luke Schmidt line up at the tight end position. I seem to remember he worked in that position at least for a little while last year.
Yeah, BigE, I would expect that to happen at least until CW can see how ready the incoming frosh are (bulk up boys!). I really want to see Will back on the field though - I expected big things from him this year…
