Transcript of NCAA Investigation into Flordia Recruiting Scandal
As ESPN reports it:
“Allegations about impermissible telephone calls by the football staff have been reviewed by the NCAA and the university, and at this time, the information does not indicate any violations of NCAA rules occurred,” Florida spokesman Steve McClain said.
Which really doesn’t surprise anyone at HLS. We’ve read the transcript of the “investigation” by the NCAA:
Chief NCAA Compliance Officer: Urban Meyer, did you place any phone calls to Maranda Smith, the girlfriend of Carl Moore, to recruit her to join the Florida Gymnastics Team in order to convince Carl Moore to join the Florida Football Team?
Urban Meyer: No.
Chief NCAA Compliance Officer: Did you hand Tim Tebow a cell phone immediately after Tebow won the 2007 Heisman and instruct him to talk to Carl Moore about joining the Florida Football Team?Urban Meyer: No.
Chief NCAA Compliance Officer: Will you supply us with records of your phone calls from your office and cell phone?
Urban Meyer: No.
Chief NCAA Compliance Officer: Well, looks like we don’t have any information that would indicate any violations of NCAA rules. I think we’re done here. Can you validate my parking, Coach?
Urban Meyer: No.
Yeah, so you can imagine we’re neither surprised or convinced.
