It’s An Honor Just To Be Nom… WTF!?

domer.mq - 3:56 pm

When I said, “if elected, we will not serve,” you guys clearly took that to mean we shouldn’t be nominated for a College Football Blog Award, as the nomination/election would just be a waste. Surely, had the 10s of 1000s of our readers “gotten out the vote,” or, as I like to say, “voted or died,” then Her Loyal Sons would have garnered at least ONE measly little nomination in some category.

In fact, I find this all just a bit suspicious. There’s absolutely no way HLS didn’t earn a nomination. It’s like Cheers not getting an Emmy nomination. That’s just absurd. I’ll have to hang out at Digg.com to await the inevitable stories of how the entire process is rigged. Perhaps Orson at EDBSB felt that we were pimping for votes. Maybe Brian at MGoBlog just can’t stand the fact that we’ve spanked him around the internets a few times this year. Or maybe it was just a bad idea to pour almost all of our efforts into Florida. At any rate, remember, if you’ve learned nothing else on this Super Tuesday, it is that your vote really doesn’t count at all.

That said, here’s some commentary on some of those who were nominated (congratulations to them all, by the way):

  • Best Big East/Notre Dame Blog: Rakes of Mallow. Yes, yes, congratulations, Rakes. You are an excellent Notre Dame blog. We read you nearly every day and enjoy your rich, mahogany content. But are you really a “Football Blog?” Hmmm? That’s an awful lot of Basketball content you’ve got going there for a football blog, don’t ch’ya think? Don’t ch’ya? Don’t ch’ya wish your girlfriend was hot like me?
  • Mythical National Champion Blog: The Wizard of Odds. The next time I see original content on this blog will be the first time. In fact, I’m pretty sure the guy running this site just set up bots that blatantly rip off text from other blogs and then post it on this site.
  • Best National Blog: FanBlogs and Fanhouse. Nominating the former for a Best College Football blog is like nominating one of those Star Wars serial novels for a Pulitzer. And Nominating the latter is akin to awarding X-Men 3 a Palme d’Or at Cannes.
  • People’s Champ: The Wizard of Odds again. This is proof that “the people” think that using America Online is “surfing the web.”
  • Best Community: Blue Gray Sky/Not Her Loyal Sons. Yeah. I’ll say. Congratulations to BGS for this and one or two other nominations (Best analysis and Best Analytical Post, I believe). And congratulations for consistently having excellent reader participation. We have excellent readers as well. We really do. Bright, articulate, thoughtful, mousy readers.
  • Best Looking Blog: MGoBlog. This one really grinds my gears. Sure, fine, don’t nominate us, but MGoBlog? That site’s design could send a blind kid into a narcoleptic fit.

WARNING: Do not look directly into the blog.

Again, congratulations to the nominees, particularly Rakes of Mallow and Blue Gray Sky. It must suck to be popular. That’s why I avoid friends. Now excuse me. I’ve got some music by The Cure to listen to and then I’ve got to watch the editor’s cut of Donnie Darko. Busy day! Anyone seen my black jacket with the ironic buttons all over it?

In all seriousness, most of the nominations are well deserved and the blogs receiving the noms are excellent. Be sure to visit EDSBS this week and vote once they have the voting doo-hicky ready to go.
