They Just Wont Leave Barbaro Alone

domer.mq

Well, now this thing has some legs.

Dana Jacobson is currently serving a 1 week suspension from ESPN. All 4 people that watch Cold Pizza or whatever the hell they call it these days have noted her absence this week from the show, and there was speculation that Jacobson might have been given some quiet time by ESPN execs, or she was foaling.

But now the Chicago Tribune has confirmed it with their “sources.”

Sources have confirmed that Jacobson, a co-host of “First Take” on ESPN2, currently is serving a one-week suspension because of her behavior at a Jan. 11 roast for ESPN Radio personalities Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic at Atlantic City, N.J.

See? “Sources.”

Also, apparently ESPN’s ombudsman is responding to letters from concerned Christians.

And The Catholic League has picked up on the story, but we’re not entirely sure who in that league can do much about it. The Justice Leage, now there’s a league that could do something about it, but we’ve heard that Batman wont hit horses.

if her actions were in references to the Muslim faith how would they have handled the issue.

jim, you make a good point. the sort of reverse-minority mindset takes a hold here kind of. cuz if you offend ‘everybody’, then you offend nobody. and that’s unfair to christians, but largely how our society works today. not saying it’s right, just the way it is.

it’s nice to see ESPN step in and do something, though a 1-week suspension is fairly weak. but, it’s something.

I think we all know what the BIG GUY has already done with Dana.We should follow His lead and accept the apology and forgive.I think its called Chritian Charity.

Face Mask,

You’re absolutely right, and I do forgive her, but Christian Charity doesn’t lend itself to easy horse-face jokes, and it’s the off-season.

I didn’t mean we can’t have some fun with this,or that we should not point out the ND haters to the crowd, just that righteous anger isn’t the responce for this act of stupidity.I enjoy the horse jokes as much as the next guy.

face mask,
we as christians should forget, I think we irritates me though is that there should be consequences tougher than a paid vacation. I think that is what most people are upset about.

I agree that she should have some pain over this but I stop at calling for her job.I hold ESPN responsible for this because they seem to have a ND hate policy.Scoop Jackson,Jim Rome,Pat Forde,Mark May,I could go on.The point is this, unless Dana was operating in this anti ND climate she may well not have been so free with her mouth. So I blame the powers that be at ESPN more than I do some kid that got drunk and run off at the mouth probably thinking that she was in keeping with the prevailing atitude of her co-workers and employers.

I tend to agree with Facemask. She is working in a anti-ND environment at ESPN which I believe fosters such comments. I am willing to forgive but not forget. By the way, I heard Frank Beckman out of WJR in Detroit today talking about this story.

I will agree to forgive her if she agrees to allow me to open no fewer than twelve (12), but no more than twenty-four (24) beer bottles with her teeth.

I love ND and my Catholic faith, but I think you guys are overreacting to this. I think that you are enjoying getting up on your high horses and being outraged just like all these ESPN people that you complain about. I don’t really care about Dana Jacobson, but comparing her to a horse is classless and immature and does not represent the Notre Dame community well.

At January 23rd, 2008 at 4:58 pm, Greg said...

Also, stop this about ESPN having a vendetta against Notre Dame. ESPN personalities are paid to make opinions, most of which will probably annoy some fan base or other. ND is not the only team that has bad things said about it. It’s crap like this that makes people dislike Notre Dame fans.

High Horse? heh heh.Good one Greg.

I am actually with you Greg. I don’t believe that ESPN has an institutionalized hatred/dislike/bias against ND. At least not more so than any other program in the country. Certain individuals dont like Notre Dame (Mark May) while others do. That applies to ESPN and any other company in the world. Sure, there may be a few more that dislike ND bc, as we all know, if you dont like ND you hate ND. But this conspiracy theory crap about there being a ‘planned’ bias against ND bc we have a contract with NBC? (or a whole host of other reasons) Give me a freaking break – people at ESPN dont spend time on that junk. They spend time on making shows and producing live games so people watch so they can get sponsors to pay them ad dollars. And that’s a fact.

But, I don’t feel bad about calling someone a horse face if they said “F ND” or TD Jesus or Jesus or anything. Hey, if they say F me, I say horse face. I just think that’s fair. Plus, we dont try to pretend to be high and mighty here. We are petty, sarcastic and hopefully funny. But, on the first part, I agree.

I was always going for petty. Funny is just an occasional side-effect.

I wasn’t comparing her to a horse. I was comparing her to a bottle opener.

At January 23rd, 2008 at 6:30 pm, The Biscuit said...

But Kermit, I love my bottle opener. It allows me to have sweet, sweet beer. Are you saying you love her? Or are you saying you hate your bottle-opener? Either is somewhat controversial…

You drink sweet beer? You’ve changed, man. You’ve changed.

Biscuit drinks beer?

I thought it was strictly Mai Tais for the Biscuit. Or shots of peach schnapps.

If this had been directed against the Muslim faith it might be important to not publicize anything. Consider the death threats against Rushdie…

Even as it is, I suspect that there is always the possibility of some christian fundamentalist wacko going postal and stalking the lady.
