Who’s Left on the Board?

A number of great guys.  Guys that would make this already-#-1 and already-legendary class even moreso.  Let's take a look, in no particular order:

Cyrus Gray, RB

Gray is pretty much down to UF and ND.  I'm still kinda confused how someone can be down to two schools where 1 head coach is a complete straight-shooter and the other is a lying fraud.  But, I guess if a fraud is really good at being a fraud, he may appear to be a straight-shooter.

I am guessing though, that Urban the Liar hasn't made Mr. Gray aware of the fact that his own RB coaches are bailing because Running Backs never get the ball in his offense.

"The offense we were running in Florida did not have much involvement with the running back," [ex-UF RB Coach Slayton who just bailed to go to UT] said during a news conference Wednesday night. "There was some frustration there, I must be honest with you."

We'll see where Gray ends up.  I'm hoping he comes North.  Not to save his soul or anything so universal or important.  But so he can touch the ball more than twice in his career.

Irish Shot:  60%

Mike Martin, DT

Mike is another top-notch player that the Irish would love to land.  The Michigan recruit has been shopping around a bit since Dickie Rod took over the program he committed to.  He probabaly watched the WVU defense get shredded by PITT and figured he might want to reconsider.  ND has needs on the D-line and Mike would be a great fit.  He's got a ridiculous motor, solid size and frame and good speed.  There's some good video of him here.  Skip through the first part that talks about him being a Wolverine, since that's TBD and check out the video. Yes, the cheesy music is brutal but you see the guy in action. Another guy that would really make this class totally-crazy-insane.  Instead of insane-crazy.  Which it already is.

Oh, and to all those that say this is poaching like Urban that's BS.  The kid's coach and recruiting contact are now no longer at Michigan.  So he was looking around.  We had needs there all of a sudden, so he was offered.  Come off it.

Irish Shot:  30-70% (upcoming visit will determine much, so even though I'm just throwing out numbers, Mike gets a range)

Will Compton, ATH

Compton is a heck of an athlete out of Florida who has been soft verballed to Nebraska for a while.  I guess he wants to get a feel for the new staff there and all before he makes his final call.    The kid is smart (3.7 GPA), fast (4.5) and big (6'2", 214) with a frame that will fill out.  He could fit in a number of places, but I'd see him as a Safety or OLB.  He'd probably be an immediate plug-in in Special Teams his frosh year too.  While the need for Will isn't as clear as, say, our need on the DL since he's the "Athlete" type, he's another guy that the Irish would love to land.

Irish Shot:  40%

Kenneth Page, OG

Page has been on ND's radar for a long time, so you know he has a good feel for Charlie and the staff.  ND was also one of his first visits, which is good and bad.  Good because it means he wanted to see the game-day atmosphere, which is almost impossible to top.  Good also because it means he has strong interest.  Bad because 18-year-old kids can forget things.  I used to forget to put on my underwear at that age, so go figure.  Anyway, it's been a while since that ND visit and he's taking a few other visits shortly.  But, ND is in the final four, so that's a good thing.

Under Armour All-American guard Kenneth Page is no longer considering South Carolina, according to The State. Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are the only schools still standing with Page.
He's already visited Notre Dame and Tennessee, has a date with Clemson for this weekend, and is scheduled to visit North Carolina on Jan. 18th.

Clemson has an impressive class this year so I'm thinking they're the top competition for him.  With the changes in UT's staff I have to make them the dog in this race.

Irish Shot:  33%

A number of other players remain possibilities (Lewis-Moore, Tate, Jenkins, etc.) but this group seems to be the core group of players with which the Irish have a good, solid shot.  Anyone else we're missing?  Because, really, I don't know jack.  Feel free to comment and add guys in that we might have over-looked.

Go Irish.
