Charlie Weis: This Loss is On You

Coach Weis, you blew this game for your kids.  The streak?  Who cares?  Means nothing to me.

But there were several "What the F?" decisions made in this game - something I haven't seen in South Bend since Daviengham.  Inexplicable decisions that make no sense.

Ball on the 24, 45 seconds left, 4th and 8.  You're NOT gonna kick a 41 yard field goal attempt?  Really?

Your kids COULD have won the game right there.  WOULD they have won? I don't know.

I am sure Coach Weis has info on his kickers that I dont.  Maybe they're not that good from 40 or farther.  (Okay, first, you need to learn to recruit a kicker if that's the case.  But that's another issue.)  So let's say he knows the guys aren't good from 40 or further out.  Let's say their percentage is 50%.  What's your chances on 4th and long?  At BEST, 50%.  Probably more like 20-30%.  So unless those guys are missing 7 out of 10 from that range (which I highly doubt), you kick.  And even if they are that bad, it gives you a chance to win the game RIGHT THERE.

We saw progress from our team offensively today (against a POOR Defense, but still), and our kids fought their hearts out.  We saw a lot of completely questionable calls from Charlie though.  Calls that did not give these kids the best chance to win. Maybe like a FAKE FG on 4th and FIFTEEN when you can take 3 points?  What was going ON today?

Coach, it's good that you always take the blame. Because this time, it's definitely on you.

EDIT:  Charlie said it was the wind on that end that made him decide to not kick.  Our guys were 4 yards short before the game.  Still, you kick.  4th and 8?  C'mon.  And his reasoning for the fake FG was that they had planned it.  Okay then Charlie, it was a bad plan.  Ugh, I need a freaking 'rita.
