Friday Roundup: Summer’s Here Edition
domer.mq - 11:48 am
Summer is officially here in Chicago. I know because the bus took 40 minutes to show up, and by then I looked like I’d just run a marathon. Mmmmmm…. Sweaty denim….
Apparently it’s also too hot for this mommy not to kill her baby.
The Roundup:
- Billy Donovan is moving on to the NBA. In case you didn’t know, Billy Donovan is/was the head coach of the Florida Gators basketball team. Also, in case you didn’t know, the NBA is a league in which they play professional basketball. Basketball is something that Lebron James does very well. (I look like a white Lebron, by the way, from the neck down.) So why does this all matter to the Notre Dame football world? Because Florida probably isn’t going to go thru a coaching search that reminds me of the gong show.
- Zach Frazer has an awesome dad and a lot of thinking to do. If you’re a dad, read this and see how you should handle a very difficult situation. If you’re not a dad, read this and see how screwed up your dad is in comparison.
- ND is looking at playing a game in Texas against Baylor. But they’re not looking to play a game in Minnesota. I’ve got a feeling it’s because the Irish aren’t recruiting against Texas in Minnesota.
- You may have heard that the Chicago Bears’ Tank Johnson was in Jail this spring. (Miami players may want to call him and take notes.) Anyway, it appears that Tank is, unlike Michigan, NOT a big fan of cupcakes.

I often looked just like this in Rolf’s. Except whiter.

Umm, you do realize you just took a shot at UM playing cupcakes right below a blurb about ND playing Baylor. Ironic? Drunken Posting?

Baylor, as bad as they are, are at least Div. 1, unlike App State or Toledo.

DTK, we don’t consume cupcakes at a rate that would make Rosie O’Donnell blush.
Also, remind me how playing Toledo helps Michigan’s recruiting reach.

Toledo is in Ohio at the very least. Look, I am not saying that UM does not schedule some softies, everyone does including ND, I just find it funny that ND fans can not just admit there is defenite softening of the ND schedule coming up in the next few years. In terms of UM’s recruiting reach, I would argue that they have over-reached and need to focus a bit more on the Midwest.
Re: App State, I am still very pissed that this game is happening. This is a flat out embarassment.

Toledo is in Ohio at the very least. So what? What’s next? Youngstown? Dayton School of Cosmetology?

No, San Diego State, Nevada, and Navy.

Oh yeah, and Illinois

I almost forgot – EASTERN Michigan
June 3, 2007 at 12:31 pmDeepTeaKup
Is Eastern Michigan better or worse than Duke or Air Force? Face it it, for all of the usual hype around the ND schedule, this year it is pretty ordinary, you just have the cupcakes for desert instead of the appetizer.
June 3, 2007 at 6:09 pmgwzimm
Arguing with a michigan fan is like dueling with an unarmed man. Live long and prosper in your silly little conference.
June 3, 2007 at 7:05 pmdomer.mq
DTK,
I’d sort of agree with you about this year’s schedule except that the start is just insane. It’s not the roughest schedule ND has ever had, sure, but it’s still far more difficult than anything Michigan ever puts up. They don’t do anything without a cupcake appetizer.

DTK loses 1 point for misspelling “dessert”. I was thinking of giving a pass because of the educational standards of UM, but decided not to in the end.
Loses another point for trying to defend playing a DII school over a D1.
Finally, loses 1 point for criticizing ND fans by throwing the incompetence of our idiot/AD’s scheduling.
June 4, 2007 at 10:21 amTrey
…in our faces. DTK, we despise having to play Duke and NC. It’s not a point of pride for us, don’t degrade our fans for something we have absolutely no control over.
One good thing for me in all this, though…Baylor is only a 3 hour drive from where I live, so woohoo! Lots of ND alumns in TX too. Personally, I’d rather us schedule UT, Tech, or A&M, but at least Baylor is another game I can get to. It’ll probably be the first sellout in the history of that stadium.

ND’s schedule is softening in the future. And thank the good Lord for it. We’ve been playing against Top-20 in difficulty schedules for the last 8 years and it’s time that we had a schedule on par with all the other perennial contenders like UM, FL and USC – meaning, a number of cakewalks in there. If that’s what it takes to win a NC, I’m all for it. There’s no reason why we should choose to take a tougher rough to the BCS than the other schools across the country.
This year is front-loaded and will be tough/painful, and while the cakes are comparable UM won’t play anything like it.
June 4, 2007 at 12:28 pmgwzimm
No Big televen school plays a tough schedule, although I give OSU credit for scheduling Texas for two years.
June 4, 2007 at 1:53 pmDeepTeaKup
Biscuit, that is pretty much my point, I don’t think it is necessarily a bad thing that ND is playing some lesser teams. At the same time though, it leaves a lot less room to criticize other teams’ schedules.
Domer, in terms of the tough start, well honestly that is just bad scheduling (see Trey’s AD comment).
