Most likely, that did set our Irish back, but I have to believe that our new DC will be an asset. He will have to work with thin numbers due to the lack of recruits on the D-Line. Either way, you need balance, and we don't have it. ND in 2006 had a prolific offense, but was completely dominated by defenses of the elite teams. I think the former DC put us way behind in the game b/c he's just not a great recruiter/seller of himself. Weis can sell himself all he wants to D recruits, but they know that the DC and their position coaches will be the ones who spend the most time with them and have the biggest effect on their careers. It's just a bummer that, for long-term gain you have to put up with short-term pain. It's sort of like dieting. This year, we have 18 recruits, 13 of which are offense. Somebody has to take the responsibility and pay attention to the other side of the ball, where our real problems are.
