Farewell, Darius

We’re gonna have more reaction on this. Probably after we manage to pull Biscuit off the ledge. It’s ok, Biscuit. There will be other gifted, young athletes on whom you may man-crush.

I’m actually okay with this. We are kind of starting new on the O, and Darius was a solid back, but we have so much talent at that position that I am not ‘on the cliff’.

Also, Q, have you noticed your Freudian Typo in the Chris Little post? In the first line, you call him CHRIST!

Blasphemy!

Freudian Typo: When you mean one thing and you type your mother.

I’ve got a billion of ‘em.

I think a lot of ND fans will receive an education in football nuance when Walker is gone. Catching from the backfield and blocking skills are huge. Quinn should share some of his signing bonus with Walker, b/c more than a few time DW saved Quinn’s life in the pocket.

Is the above photo from the ‘04 Michigan game? If so, it’s reversed, right?

At January 11th, 2007 at 4:51 pm, Bad Kermit said...

Yeah, it’s reversed. Those are actually “E’s” on his jersey.

Darius is a great kid, but I seriously think you guys value him WAY too highly. A lot of guys can catch out of the backfield and block, yet can also break tackles and have breakaway speed. I suppose you are the same guys who think Thomas Jones deserves more carries than Cedric Benson.

This post is a lot more bitter than it sounded in my head.

“E”, referring to the amount of intelligence in my brain when I posted that.

I simply thought that was one of his TD’s against UM in ‘04. I only remember that moment because of the high I felt, compared to the week prior (L @ BYU)

I think I was channeling Kermit earlier today. I was going to post the exact same thing, but thought better of it since I’m not a regular poster and it might have been taken the wrong way. (Long time reader, first time poster. This is so exciting)

Yeah, Kermit, but those guys that can do such things are named “Julius Jones.”
Give me 10 4-5* prospects, and 1 of them will catch and block as well as Darius.
That said, Game Breaking speed is also very valuable.
I just think that a lot of people will wonder why the backside LB is able to kill our QB so often next year.

Good luck to Darius, and I’m eternally grateful that he made my last road trip to Stanford a gleeful drive back, rather than 500 miles of gloom and despondency.

Now that this presser has come and gone, and there was no word of any changes in the coaching staff (nor any other conferences scheduled), can we infer that Minter has dodged the bullet for this year, or is CW just biding his time until he can announce the new guy at the same time as he’s thanking the old one?

I’m not an experienced South Bend Chimney Smoke watcher, so I’m not sure if we wait with bated breath for the “Habamus Novus Imperator Tutamen”
signal, or do we just forget about it until the next time our D gets kicked all over the field?

BurbankSteve,
Patience is a virtue.

As I said below, I think this is a bad move for Darius, however as a Michigan fan I love it. No returning skill players, awesome.

I think it’s a good move for D-Walk. He just came off a great game vs. LSU, and next year our O-Line isn’t exactly the most experienced. If the only thing he is lacking is speed, he’s not going to get that by hanging around here for another year.

On a separate note, Biscuit and you other guys might wanna check out the vid I made saluting Darius and saying farewell to our man crush over at http://www.robotcharlie.blogspot.com

DTK,

Our Tight End will be returning, so boo-yah!

I thought he was a senior? Any word on what Zbisdisdski is going to do?

Zibby is coming back.

Carlson is a sr., but he’ll be coming back for his 5th (and his MBA - what up Peej?)

And I didn’t say that I’m glad to see Darius go. Our next new back will undoubtedly look HORRID after Darius’ few 1,000 yard+ years. But, if we’re gonna start building toward our (extremely bright) future, I don’t mind doing it all at once, instead of having a new RB in year 2 to go with an already-experienced rest-of-the-O.

Biscuit.

Also, Q, you totally mis-used the term Man-Crush. I don’t think there’s a single college FB upon which I could have a man-crush. I could have one on a coach (I dont), but I dont think a player. A Man-Crush is supposed to be a desire to hang out with someone. While I enjoyed watching Brady Quinn and the Shark play football, I doubt I would enjoy more than the first 3 minutes of meeting them. I’m sure they’re great guys, but probably not the type of dude I’d want to hang with. I’d probably be more down for meeting dudes that can really shoot the shite. Like Bad Kermit for example.

I’m not even ON Mancrush.com. Eff that site.

Ok, Biscuit. I take back my statemenst about you having a man-crush on these guys.

Biscuit has a crush on Darius Walker.

There. Is that better?
