All-World, Heisman Winner, Feel-Good-Story-of-the-Media’s-Year QB Shits Bed, tOSU Gets Swamped

Now, I’m not one to say that Troy Smith wouldn’t have gotten my vote the night of the ceremony. While I would’ve wanted to vote for Brady, I just couldn’t have. Not after the USC game, and with Troy leading his team to victory over then-consensus-#2 Michigan the week prior. But wow, did we see a different player tonight. And his draft status will suffer.
Troy Smith was a stellar 4 for 14 for 36 yards total passing tonight (and a nice 29% completion ratio) as the Buckeyes fell to a more pumped, more prepared and more hungry Florida team. Do you think tOSU started to believe their own hype? It certainly looked like it to me.
Add to those great stats Troy’s 2 turnovers and -37 yards rushing as he scrambled for his life all night and I’d say it’s the worst QB performance I’ve seen in a long time by any top team’s signal caller, let alone by any top team’s QB in a national championship game. Funny thing is, the media will talk about all the pressure he was under all night, and give him a free pass. Hell, they’ll probably tell him to collect his $200 as he passes “Go” too.

Brady didn’t have a great night the other night against LSU, but he was taken to task by, well, pretty much everyone for it. But no one seemed to mention all the pressure he was under that night, or all year for that matter. They talked about his ‘horrid’ 15/35 for 148 performance, and pondered its impact on his NFL stature as a result. Troy? He’ll go unscathed in the media. But come draft day, the difference will show.

All is balanced now in the world. ND and tOSU both lost by identical scores: 41-14. Trot Smith looked and smelled like a high school QB. Mark May must be crapping in his drawers right now.
It was hard to root for Florida, but I have to admit seeing Troy and the fuckeyes get blasted was pretty enjoyable.
Gene Wojiecljadlf;jak from ESPN wrote this today:
Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith played so gruesomely awful (4-of-14 for 35 yards, one interception, zero touchdowns) that the Heisman people might want their trophy back.
Ummmm, Gene, didn’t you spend 5 MONTHS touting Smith as the next QB God? Yeah, that was you? Weird that you didn’t mention that in your article.
All year we’ve heard about how Quinn shouldn’t win the Heisman because he couldn’t win the big games. Well, tOSU just got ass-rammed in their biggest game in five years… seems to me Troy Smith couldn’t win the big game.
I wrote about all this in my blog, though… couldn’t wait to lay down the logic. Maxwell and Cingular seem to have gotten it right. Heisman fails yet again.
