BC Job Opens Up. Oddly, Bob Davie’s Name Still Not Withdrawn From Consideration

domer.mq

Weird. NCState fires Chesty McChesterchest. Out of nowhere, they apparently have snagged Boston College’s head coach Tom O’Brien as a replacement. Why a guy would leave one mid-tier ACC team for another is beyond me. We can only assume such a “lateral move” is akin to you or I jumping to a new company just to get away from coworkers/bosses you can’t stand. That he’s running away from Fredo should surprise nobody.

Weirder. Bob Davie is, somehow, an actual potential candidate for the job.

Thanks to the posters at NDN, who found this nugget via the Boston Globe:

If O’Brien leaves, the next step will be finding his successor, a task that falls to athletic director Gene DeFilippo, who will get the opportunity to make his first major hire at The Heights.

One name that immediately surfaced is former Notre Dame coach Bob Davie, whom DeFilippo coached as a player at Youngstown State. Davie would make a splashy first hire for DeFilippo, but it would likely come at a price far higher than the salary O’Brien reportedly earned.

So many questions:

  1. Bob Davie actually played football? Another living person can actually verify this?
  2. Bob Davie is considered a “splashy hire?”
  3. Bob Davie could command a salary that is more expensive than the one O’Brien was getting?
  4. WTF?

Well, you have to realize that this IS Fredo we’re talking about. Anyone outside of Todd Witten(Coach at Sam Houston) would be considered a “flashy hire.”

Dude, that would be awesome. It would solve a few serious problems.

1 - It would get Bob off TV, and I HATE him as an announcer, especially when he says he disagrees with ANY decision CW makes during an ND game. If CW decided to punt on 1st and goal from the 3 and Bob criticized it, I’d still get pissed. He has no right to, regardless of his ‘job’.

2 - He’d definitely run that program into the ground with some horrible offense and questionable clock management. That would be fun to watch.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure that O’Brien moved down there for the weather. I would.

Oh, Sweet Jesus let this happen. That would make my life if Davie got hired. No. 1, as Biscuit said, it would take him off ABC. Every time he says that any coach, not just Charlie, is making a bad call, I can’t help but think to myself about the time he looked at his depth chart upside down and started his tight end at QB. And secondly, ND plays BC at least the next 7 years (although Bob would probably be fired after 3-4). Wouldn’t it be nice to watch ND absolutly demolish a Davie-coached team? Rhetorical question; Yes, it would.

Yes. And Amen!

I would even throw out a “Gimme a Hallelujah!” if he was hired.

The footbaw coach would probbly only recruit 10-11 players each year, too

Again, you need to use the “Never Letting it Go” category more.

DTK,
We hold no grudge against Davie.
We just know the truth. We keep it real, yo.
