Stanford: Just Another Football Factory
domer.mq
According to the AP, Walt Harris, Head Coach of Football, Stanford University, and wearer of sunglasses in all conditions, is now the Former Head Coach of Football, Stanford University, and wearer of sunglasses in all conditions.
In making this move, Stanford University has stood up and said that winning is really the most important thing, as they’ve fired Harris after just 2 years into his 5 year contract. As has been noted numerous times by the omniscient and wise mainstream media, 3 years is just not a long enough time by which to judge a coach’s performance, much less 2 years.
And Stanford can act like some super-duper national university that really values academics all they want. They can go around and pretend that there’s something unique and special about Stanford. Sure. But now we all know the truth: Winning is the most important thing. Academics is for losers.
We fully expect to hear from the outraged voices of Mark May, John Saunders, and Jason Whitlock any moment now. I mean, clearly if a coach isn’t given a full 5 years to implement his sytem and get his own players into the program, then something fishy must be going on. I bet Stanford hates men with salt and pepper hair.

Dude, that is totally racist. They must not like (insert anglo-saxon European heritage here) people.
Shouldn’t this also go in your “never letting it go” category?
Hmmm. Tough call. I’m sort of holding the grudge against Ty Willingham. A can’t call a pure, instinctive hatred of the media a “grudge,” can I?
Come on, Forde, where are you clamoring for a full committe investigation into the racism running rampant at Stanford? Maybe you can give Al Gore a call to support your case. ITS THE BLACK MAN KEEPING US DOWN!
This is a great post, perfectly illustrating the hypocrisy of those 3 airheads in the media who lambasted N.D. for making the right move; however, you forgot to add Monk and his bald-headed assistant. In their memory, and to honor all self-righteous indignation everywhere, I will shave my head, leaving only enough hair to spell out ‘Walt Harris’ Then, I will go play golf with Ty and reminisce about the good times - for example when he was drawing two paychecks at the same time from N.D. and U.W.
Domer, here’s the thing though, we all know that Ty was not the right person to lead ND and I think most in themedia would have tended to agree with that. I think the larger point they were making was that now ND could not claim they were special and did things a certain ND way. Just an outsider’s thought on it though.
I think Walt Harris is a good coach, and one who had a “no-win” situation at Stanford. Injuries this year ruined his chances. But his teams performed well considering their available talent.
I am awaiting Mark May’s hue and cry as to how unfair this action was after two years. Well, Mark? Where the fuck is the indignation?
DTK, What’s truly absurd is the notion that firing or not firing someone for failing at the job is somehow correlated with being “special.” What makes ND special isn’t that we never fire anyone. What makes ND special is that they constantly strive for excellence athletically, spiritually, and academically. (But maybe not in spelling.)
We honored our contract with Ty. The contract stated that if we fired him, we’d have to keep paying him for a while, and we did. He didn’t live up to his end of the agreement. Sticking with him would make ND a chump. Being a chump doesn’t make you special.
Domer, I actually agree with you on this, just pointing out what I thought was the “media” take on the whole thing. Of course ND is special, every time yuo guys have a 9-3 season people write books about it. Can you imagine what would happen if y’all won the BCS?
It’s not a matter of “if”, but “when.”
