That's what I just spit up after reading this "column" over at UHND.com. Mental note, never read anything at UHND.com again.
This supposed Notre Dame fan site goes and essentially concedes the Heisman to the OSU quarterback despite Brady Quinn having an opportunity to play against ND's only true rival on National Television on Thanksgiving weekend. Remarkable. Absolutely remarkable.
There are still some Irish faithful who are holding out hope Quinn can become the eighth Heisman winner in Notre Dame history, but objectively speaking, I just don’t see how that will be possible at this point.. I would have loved to see Quinn giving an acceptance speech from the Downtown Athletic club in December, but for all intents and purposes, Smith almost certainly won it on Saturday.
Notre Dame is about heart and courage and the will to succeed. "What tho the odds be great or small," remember? Un-f-ing-believable.
Forget about the fact that I don't actually want Brady Quinn to win the Heisman (see my earlier thoughts on Heismans, QBs, and curses (I'm a big believer in curses)), this sort of give-up attitude is exactly what was wrong with Notre Dame football for the better part of the last ten years. Clearly some "fans" haven't quite worked out the cobwebs.

I don’t buy it.
That column is a lie.

actually,
i agree w/ uhnd.com, and I am a huge irish fan. Dude, the ESPN/ABC media giant has mixed the perfect storm of hype and OSU YAC’s in the UM game to make Smith the BEST QB EVERERERRARARZ! This year will be the biggest joke of the Heisman ever. Quinn will be the best college football player never to win a Heisman. Guys, it’s in the bag, and I feel awful saying it, but let’s not delude ourselves with false senses of hope.

In my heart, I agree with you. I think Brady Quinn has done more with less all season. Let’s face it – OSU is stocked to the gills with talent, and while our talent is outstanding in two or three areas, it’s not at the same level. But that just makes Quinn’s accomplishments this season even more outstanding.
But UHND is also right – the pundits have penciled Smith’s name in since the U of M game, despite Quinn’s harder schedule, better numbers, etc. It’s a lot of ND media bias, as I’m sure no one has said yet.
This may be the biggest Heisman joke since the Detmer/Ismail fiasco.
