Hilariously, they won’t take a beating at all for firing him. I think I still have the record, though, for starting “Fire Lou Piniella!” nearly two weeks before he was HIRED.
Apparently his kicker didn’t take properly to being molded into a champion. I read this and I have horrible flashbacks. The quote comes from an article in the first post of the linked thread.
Willingham explained why at Monday’s news conference while speaking in general terms, not specifically about either player.
“My goals for this program are to be a championship football team,” he said. “I expect them to do all the things necessary to be a champion. That includes the weight room, film study, classroom, all these things.
“I want them to be the best they can be. I want them to be championship people, and I want these young men to have fun the right way.”
