It’s Butch!
Butch Davis, former coach of the Miami Hurricanes and one-time NFL Coaching Attemptee, is apparently doing the impossible: Taking a job as the Head Football Coach of the Unversity of North Carolina.
Ok, I suppose that’s not so impossible. I could probably do it if I’d applied. But why leave behind the grandeur or cubicles and the weather of Chicago for year-round golfing climate and a job for which I’d hold any real passion? Exactly.
Anyway, why would a “coaching legend” (As Butch must be since, MY GOD, does he get talked about way too often. For someone who hasn’t donned the headphone set for 2 years, I’ve gotta wonder what this “what have you done for me lately” kind of world has come to if they’re gonna slober all over themselves for this guy.) want to take up the reigns at a basketball school?
My suspicion is that this is a stepping-stone move for Butch. Do well here, and then on to Texas! And it wont take much. A few top-25 recruiting classes here. A couple of 8-4 seasons there. The occasional bowl win over a spunky Syracuse… Sounds peachy.

Butch Davis. Seen here wondering why the heck he took the Browns job.
